yat te sujāta-caranāmburuham staneshu

bhītāh śanaih priya dadhīmahi karkaśeshu

tenātavīm atasi tad vyathate na kim svit

kūrpādibhir bhramati dhīr bhavad-āyushām nah

SYNONYMS

yat — which; te — Your; sujāta — very fine; carana-ambu-ruham — lotus feet; staneshu — on the breasts; bhītāh — being afraid; śanaih — gently; priyaO dear one; dadhīmahi — we place; karkaśeshu — rough; tena — with them; atavīm — the path; atasi — You roam; tat — they; vyathateare distressed; na — not; kim svit — we wonder; kūrpa-ādibhih — by small stones and so on; bhramati — flutters; dhīh — the mind; bhavat-āyushām — of those of whom Your Lordship is the very life; nah — of us.

TRANSLATION

"O dearly beloved! Your lotus feet are so soft that we place them gently on our breasts, fearing that Your feet will be hurt. Our life rests only in You. Our minds, therefore, are filled with anxiety that Your tender feet might be wounded by pebbles as You roam about on the forest path."

PURPORT

This text from Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (10.31.19) was spoken by the gopīs when Krishna left them in the midst of the rāsa-līlā.
