dīpārcir eva hi daśāntaram abhyupetya

dīpāyate vivrita-hetu-samāna-dharmā

yas tādrig eva hi ca vishnutayā vibhāti

govindam ādi-purusham tam aham bhajāmi

SYNONYMS

dīpa-arcih — the flame of a lamp; evaas; hi — certainly; daśā-antaram — another lamp; abhyupetya — expanding; dīpāyate — illuminates; vivrita-hetu — with its expanded cause; samāna-dharmā — equally powerful; yah — who; tādrik — similarly; eva — certainly; hi — certainly; ca — also; vishnutayā — by His expansion as Lord Vishnu; vibhāti — illuminates; govindamto Lord Krishna; ādi-purusham — the supreme original person; tamto Him; ahamI; bhajāmi — offer my worshipful respect.

TRANSLATION

"'When the flame of one candle is expanded to another candle and placed in a different position, it burns separately, and its illumination is as powerful as the original candle's. Similarly, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Govinda, expands Himself in different forms as Vishnu, who is equally luminous, powerful and opulent. Let me worship that Supreme Personality of Godhead, Govinda.'
