vipra kahe, — jīvane mora nāhi prayojana

agni-jale praveśiyā chāḍiba jīvana

SYNONYMS

vipra kahe — the brāhmaṇa said; jīvane mora — for my life; nāhi — there is not; prayojana — necessity; agniin fire; jalein water; praveśiyā — entering; chāḍibaI shall give up; jīvana — life.

TRANSLATION

The brāhmaṇa replied, "I have no reason to live. I shall give up my life by entering either fire or water.
