SYNONYMS
tatra -- there; atisusubhe -- appeared most brilliant; tabhih -- with them; bhagavan -- the Supreme Lord; devaki-sutah -- Krishna, the son of Devaki; madhye -- in the midst; maninam -- of ornaments; haimanam -- golden; maha -- great; marakatah -- a sapphire; yatha -- as.
TRANSLATION
In the midst of the dancing gopis, Lord Krishna appeared most brilliant, like an exquisite sapphire in the midst of golden ornaments.
PURPORT
Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura states that Devaki, besides being the name of Vasudeva's wife, is also a name of mother Yasoda, as stated in the Adi Purana: dve namni nanda-bharyaya yasoda devakiti ca. "The wife of Nanda has two names -- Yasoda and Devaki."
