tam drishtvā parama-prītah

pratyutthāya kritāñjalih

ānarcādhokshaja-dhiyā

pranipāta-purahsaram

SYNONYMS

tam — him (Gargamuni); drishtvā — after seeing; parama-prītahNanda Mahārāja was very much pleased; pratyutthāya — standing up to receive him; krita-añjalih — with folded hands; ānarca — worshiped; adhokshaja-dhiyā — although Gargamuni was visible to the senses, Nanda Mahārāja maintained a very high respect for him; pranipāta-purahsaramNanda Mahārāja fell down before him and offered obeisances.

TRANSLATION

When Nanda Mahārāja saw Gargamuni present at his home, Nanda was so pleased that he stood up to receive him with folded hands. Although seeing Gargamuni with his eyes, Nanda Mahārāja could appreciate that Gargamuni was adhokshaja; that is, he was not an ordinary person seen by material senses.
