tvam yakshmanā balavatāsi grihīta indo
kshīnas tamo na nija-dīdhitibhih kshinoshi
kaccin mukunda-gaditāni yathā vayam tvam
vismritya bhoh sthagita-gīr upalakshyase nah
SYNONYMS
tvam — you; yakshmanā — by consumption; bala-vatā — powerful; asi — are; grihītah — seized; indo — O moon; kshīnah — emaciated; tamah — darkness; na — not; nija — your; dīdhitibhih — with the rays; kshinoshi — you destroy; kaccit — whether; mukunda-gaditāni — the statements made by Mukunda; yathā — like; vayam — us; tvam — you; vismritya — forgetting; bhoh — dear one; sthagita — stunned; gīh — whose speech; upalakshyase — you appear; nah — to us.
TRANSLATION
My dear moon, having contracted a severe case of tuberculosis, you have become so emaciated that you fail to dispel the darkness with your rays. Or is it that you appear dumbstruck because, like us, you cannot remember the encouraging promises Mukunda once made to you?
