śamo damas tapah śaucam

santoshah kshāntir ārjavam

mad-bhaktiś ca dayā satyam

brahma-prakritayas tv imāh

SYNONYMS

śamah — peacefulness; damah — sense control; tapah — austerity; śaucam — cleanliness; santoshah — full satisfaction; kshāntih — forgiveness; ārjavam — simplicity and straightforwardness; mat-bhaktih — devotional service unto Me; ca — also; dayā — mercy; satyam — truth; brahma — of the brāhmanas; prakritayah — the natural qualities; tu — indeed; imāh — these.

TRANSLATION

Peacefulness, self-control, austerity, cleanliness, satisfaction, tolerance, simple straightforwardness, devotion to Me, mercy and truthfulness are the natural qualities of the brāhmanas.
