teshām vai bharato jyeshtho

nārāyana-parāyanah

vikhyātam varsham etad yan-

nāmnā bhāratam adbhutam

SYNONYMS

teshām — of them; vai — indeed; bharatahBharata; jyeshthah — the oldest; nārāyana-parāyanah — completely devoted to Lord Nārāyana; vikhyātam — is famous; varsham — the planet; etat — this; yat-nāmnā — by whose name; bhāratamBhārata-varsha; adbhutam — wonderful.

TRANSLATION

Of the one hundred sons of Lord Rishabhadeva, the eldest, Bharata, was completely devoted to Lord Nārāyana. It is because of Bharata's fame that this planet is now celebrated as the great Bhārata-varsha.
