evam gadabhyam gurvibhyam

haryaksho harir eva ca

jigishaya susamrabdhav

anyonyam abhijaghnatuh

SYNONYMS

evam -- in this way; gadabhyam -- with their maces; gurvibhyam -- huge; haryakshah -- the demon Haryaksha (Hiranyaksha); harih -- Lord Hari; eva -- certainly; ca -- and; jigishaya -- with a desire for victory; susamrabdhau -- enraged; anyonyam -- each other; abhijaghnatuh -- they struck.

TRANSLATION

In this way, the demon Haryaksha and the Lord, the Personality of Godhead, struck each other with their huge maces, each enraged and seeking his own victory.

PURPORT

Haryaksha is another name for Hiranyaksha, the demon.
