tato 'bhipadyābhyahanan mahāsuro

rushā nrisimham gadayoruvegayā

tam vikramantam sagadam gadādharo

mahoragam tārkshya-suto yathāgrahīt

SYNONYMS

tatah — thereafter; abhipadya — attacking; abhyahanat — struck; mahā-asurah — the great demon (Hiranyakaśipu); rushā — with anger; nrisimham — Lord Nrisimhadeva; gadayā — by his club; uru-vegayā — moving with great force; tam — him (Hiranyakaśipu); vikramantam — showing his prowess; sa-gadam — with his club; gadā-dharah — Lord Nrisimhadeva, who also holds a club in His hand; mahā-uragama great snake; tārkshya-sutahGaruda, the son of Tārkshya; yathā — just as; agrahīt — captured.

TRANSLATION

Thereafter, the great demon Hiranyakaśipu, who was extremely angry, swiftly attacked Nrisimhadeva with his club and began to beat Him. Lord Nrisimhadeva, however, captured the great demon, along with his club, just as Garuda might capture a great snake.
