purnam varsha-sahasram me

vishayan sevato 'sakrit

tathapi canusavanam

trishna teshupajayate

SYNONYMS

purnam -- completely; varsha-sahasram -- one thousand years; me -- my; vishayan -- sense gratification; sevatah -- enjoying; asakrit -- without cessation, continuously; tatha api -- still; ca -- indeed; anusavanam -- more and more; trishna -- lusty desires; teshu -- in sense gratification; upajayate -- are increased.

TRANSLATION

I have spent a full one thousand years enjoying sense gratification, yet my desire to enjoy such pleasure increases daily.

PURPORT

Maharaja Yayati is explaining, in terms of his actual experience, how strong are sexual desires, even in old age.
