yo 'jamidha-suto hy anya

rikshah samvaranas tatah

tapatyam surya-kanyayam

kurukshetra-patih kuruh

parikshih sudhanur jahnur

nishadhas ca kuroh sutah

suhotro 'bhut sudhanushas

cyavano 'tha tatah kriti

SYNONYMS

yah -- who; ajamidha-sutah -- was a son born from Ajamidha; hi -- indeed; anyah -- another; rikshah -- Riksha; samvaranah -- Samvarana; tatah -- from him (Riksha); tapatyam -- Tapati; surya-kanyayam -- in the womb of the daughter of the sun-god; kurukshetra-patih -- the King of Kurukshetra; kuruh -- Kuru was born; parikshih sudhanuh jahnuh nishadhah ca -- Parikshi, Sudhanu, Jahnu and Nishadha; kuroh -- of Kuru; sutah -- the sons; suhotrah -- Suhotra; abhut -- was born; sudhanushah -- from Sudhanu; cyavanah -- Cyavana; atha -- from Suhotra; tatah -- from him (Cyavana); kriti -- a son named Kriti.

TRANSLATION

Another son of Ajamidha was known as Riksha. From Riksha came a son named Samvarana, and from Samvarana through the womb of his wife, Tapati, the daughter of the sun-god, came Kuru, the King of Kurukshetra. Kuru had four sons -- Parikshi, Sudhanu, Jahnu and Nishadha. From Sudhanu, Suhotra was born, and from Suhotra, Cyavana. From Cyavana, Kriti was born.
