brahma-dando duratyayah
SYNONYMS
śrī-rājā uvāca — King Parīkshit inquired; bhagavan — O great brāhmana; śrotum icchāmi — I wish to hear (from you); rājarsheh — of the great King Ambarīsha; tasya — of him; dhīmatah — who was such a greatly sober personality; na — not; prābhūt — could act; yatra — upon whom (Mahārāja Ambarīsha); nirmuktah — being released; brahma-dandah — the curse of a brāhmana; duratyayah — which is insurmountable.
TRANSLATION
King Parīkshit inquired: O great personality, Mahārāja Ambarīsha was certainly most exalted and meritorious in character. I wish to hear about him. How surprising it is that the curse of a brāhmana, which is insurmountable, could not act upon him.
