yajña-vāstu-gatam sarvam

ucchishtam rishayah kvacit

cakrur hi bhāgam rudrāya

sa devah sarvam arhati

SYNONYMS

yajña-vāstu-gatam — things belonging to the sacrificial arena; sarvam — everything; ucchishtam — remnants; rishayah — the great sages; kvacit — sometimes, in the Daksha-yajña; cakruh — did so; hi — indeed; bhāgam — share; rudrāya — unto Lord Śiva; sah — that; devah — demigod; sarvam — everything; arhati — deserves.

TRANSLATION

The father of Nābhāga said: Whatever the great sages sacrificed in the arena of the Daksha-yajña, they offered to Lord Śiva as his share. Therefore, everything in the sacrificial arena certainly belongs to Lord Śiva.
