yati hañā jihvā-lāmpaṭya — atyanta anyāya

yatira dharma, — prāṇa rākhite āhāra-mātra khāya"

SYNONYMS

yati hañā — being a sannyāsī; jihvā-lāmpaṭya — indulging in satisfying the tongue; atyanta anyāya — grievous offense; yatira dharma — the religious principle of a sannyāsī; prāṇa rākhiteto maintain life; āhāra — food; mātra — only; khāya — eats.

TRANSLATION

"For a sannyāsī to indulge in satisfying the tongue is a great offense. The duty of a sannyāsī is to eat only as much as needed to keep body and soul together."
