vajrād api kaṭhorāṇi
mṛdūni kusumād api
lokottarāṇāḿ cetāḿsi
ko nu vijñātum īśvaraḥ
SYNONYMS
vajrāt api — than a thunderbolt; kaṭhorāṇi — harder; mṛdūni — softer; kusumāt api — than a flower; loka-uttarāṇām — persons above the human platform of behavior; cetāḿsi — the hearts; kaḥ — who; nu — but; vijñātum — to understand; īśvaraḥ — able.
TRANSLATION
"The hearts of those above common behavior are sometimes harder than a thunderbolt and sometimes softer than a flower. How can one accommodate such contradictions in great personalities?"
