caturdaśaḿ nārasiḿhaḿ
bibhrad daityendram ūrjitam
dadāra karajair ūrāv
erakāḿ kaṭa-kṛd yathā
SYNONYMS
caturdaśam — the fourteenth in the line; nāra-siḿham — the incarnation of the Lord as half-man and half-lion; bibhrat — advented; daitya-indram — the king of the atheists; ūrjitam — strongly built; dadāra — bifurcated; karajaiḥ — by the nails; ūrau — on the lap; erakām — canes; kaṭa-kṛt — carpenter; yathā — just like.
TRANSLATION
In the fourteenth incarnation, the Lord appeared as Nṛsiḿha and bifurcated the strong body of the atheist Hiraṇyakaśipu with His nails, just as a carpenter pierces cane.
