śrī-śuka uvāca
antarhite bhagavati
sahasaiva vrajāńganāḥ
atapyaḿs tam acakṣāṇāḥ
kariṇya iva yūthapam
SYNONYMS
śrī-śukaḥ uvāca — Śukadeva Gosvāmī said; antarhite — when He disappeared; bhagavati — the Supreme Personality of Godhead; sahasā eva — quite suddenly; vraja-ańganāḥ — the young ladies of Vraja; atapyan — felt great remorse; tam — Him; acakṣāṇāḥ — not seeing; kariṇyaḥ — female elephants; iva — just as; yūthapam — their male leader.
TRANSLATION
Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: When Lord Kṛṣṇa disappeared so suddenly, the gopīs felt great sorrow at losing sight of Him, like a group of female elephants who have lost their mate.
