mauryā hy ete daśa nṛpāḥ
sapta-triḿśac-chatottaram
samā bhokṣyanti pṛthivīḿ
kalau kuru-kulodvaha
SYNONYMS
mauryāḥ — the Mauryas; hi — indeed; ete — these; daśa — ten; nṛpāḥ — kings; sapta-triḿśat — thirty-seven; śata — one hundred; uttaram — more than; samāḥ — years; bhokṣyanti — they will rule; pṛthivīm — the earth; kalau — in Kali-yuga; kuru-kula — of the Kuru dynasty; udvaha — O most eminent hero.
TRANSLATION
O best of the Kurus, these ten Maurya kings will rule the earth for 137 years of the Kali-yuga.
PURPORT
Although nine kings are mentioned by name, Daśaratha appeared after Sujyeṣṭha, before the rule of Sańgata, and thus there are ten Maurya kings.
