hāhā-kāro mahān āsīd

bhuvi khe dikṣu sarvataḥ

vismitā hy abhavan sarve

devāsura-narādayaḥ

SYNONYMS

hāhā-kāraḥa cry of lamentation; mahān — great; āsīt — there was; bhuvi — on the earth; khein the sky; dikṣuin the directions; sarvataḥ — all about; vismitāḥ — amazed; hi — indeed; abhavan — they became; sarve — all; deva — the demigods; asura — demons; nara — human beings; ādayaḥ — and other creatures.

TRANSLATION

There arose a terrible cry of lamentation in all directions on the earth and in the heavens, and all the demigods, demons, human beings and other creatures were astonished.
