vyabhicāraḿ munir jñātvā

patnyāḥ prakupito 'bravīt

ghnataināḿ putrakāḥ pāpām

ity uktās te na cakrire

SYNONYMS

vyabhicāram — adultery; muniḥ — the great sage Jamadagni; jñātvā — could understand; patnyāḥ — of his wife; prakupitaḥhe became angry; abravīthe said; ghnata — kill; enām — her; putrakāḥ — my dear sons; pāpām — sinful; iti uktāḥ — being thus advised; te — all the sons; na — did not; cakrire — carry out his order.

TRANSLATION

The great sage Jamadagni understood the adultery in the mind of his wife. Therefore he was very angry and told his sons, "My dear sons, kill this sinful woman!" But the sons did not carry out his order.
