maitreya uvāca

itthaḿ sa loka-guruṇā

samādiṣṭo viśāmpatiḥ

tathā ca kṛtvā vātsalyaḿ

maghonāpi ca sandadhe

SYNONYMS

maitreyaḥ uvāca — the great sage Maitreya continued to speak; ittham — thus; saḥ — King Pṛthu; loka-guruṇā — by the original teacher of all people, Lord Brahmā; samādiṣṭaḥ — being advised; viśām-patiḥ — the king, master of the people; tathāin that way; ca — also; kṛtvā — having done; vātsalyam — affection; maghonā — with Indra; api — even; ca — also; sandadhe — concluded peace.

TRANSLATION

The great sage Maitreya continued: When King Pṛthu was thus advised by the supreme teacher, Lord Brahmā, he abandoned his eagerness to perform yajñas and with great affection concluded a peace with King Indra.
