ugrasena-sutaḥ kaḿsaḥ
svasuḥ priya-cikīrṣayā
raśmīn hayānāḿ jagrāha
raukmai ratha-śatair vṛtaḥ
SYNONYMS
ugrasena-sutaḥ — the son of Ugrasena; kaḿsaḥ — by the name Kaḿsa; svasuḥ — of his own sister Devakī; priya-cikīrṣayā — to please her on the occasion of her marriage; raśmīn — the reins; hayānām — of the horses; jagrāha — took; raukmaiḥ — made of gold; ratha-śataiḥ — by hundreds of chariots; vṛtaḥ — surrounded.
TRANSLATION
Kaḿsa, the son of King Ugrasena, in order to please his sister Devakī on the occasion of her marriage, took charge of the reins of the horses and became the chariot driver. He was surrounded by hundreds of golden chariots.
