te 'nvasajjanta rājanyā
niṣeddhuḿ pathi kecana
saḿyattā uddhṛteṣv-āsā
grāma-siḿhā yathā harim
SYNONYMS
te — they; anvasajjanta — followed from behind; rājanyāḥ — the kings; niṣeddhum — to check Him; pathi — on the path; kecana — some of them; saḿyattāḥ — ready; uddhṛta — raised; iṣu-āsāḥ — whose bows; grāma-siḿhā — "lions of the village" (dogs); yathā — as; harim — a lion.
TRANSLATION
The kings pursued the Lord like village dogs chasing a lion. Some kings, raising their bows, stationed themselves on the road to stop Him as He passed by.
