tato 'bhipadyābhyahanan mahāsuro
ruṣā nṛsiḿhaḿ gadayoruvegayā
taḿ vikramantaḿ sagadaḿ gadādharo
mahoragaḿ tārkṣya-suto yathāgrahīt
SYNONYMS
tataḥ — thereafter; abhipadya — attacking; abhyahanat — struck; mahā-asuraḥ — the great demon (Hiraṇyakaśipu); ruṣā — with anger; nṛsiḿham — Lord Nṛsiḿhadeva; gadayā — by his club; uru-vegayā — moving with great force; tam — him (Hiraṇyakaśipu); vikramantam — showing his prowess; sa-gadam — with his club; gadā-dharaḥ — Lord Nṛsiḿhadeva, who also holds a club in His hand; mahā-uragam — a great snake; tārkṣya-sutaḥ — Garuḍa, the son of Tārkṣya; yathā — just as; agrahīt — captured.
TRANSLATION
Thereafter, the great demon Hiraṇyakaśipu, who was extremely angry, swiftly attacked Nṛsiḿhadeva with his club and began to beat Him. Lord Nṛsiḿhadeva, however, captured the great demon, along with his club, just as Garuḍa might capture a great snake.
