yadā sa deva-guruṇā

yācito 'bhīkṣṇaśo madāt

nātyajat tat-kṛte jajñe

sura-dānava-vigrahaḥ

SYNONYMS

yadā — when; saḥhe (Soma, the moon-god); deva-guruṇā — by the spiritual master of the demigods, Bṛhaspati; yācitaḥ — was begged; abhīkṣṇaśaḥ — again and again; madāt — because of false pride; na — not; atyajat — did deliver; tat-kṛte — because of this; jajñe — there was; sura-dānava — between the demigods and the demons; vigrahaḥa fight.

TRANSLATION

Although requested again and again by Bṛhaspati, the spiritual master of the demigods, Soma did not return Tārā. This was due to his false pride. Consequently, a fight ensued between the demigods and the demons.
