Canto 9: LiberationChapter 18: King Yayāti Regains His Youth

śukras tam āha kupitaḥ

strī-kāmānṛta-pūruṣa

tvāḿ jarā viśatāḿ manda

virūpa-karaṇī nṛṇām

SYNONYMS

śukraḥ — Śukrācārya; tam — unto him (King Yayāti); āha — said; kupitaḥ — being very angry at him; strī-kāmaO you who have lusty desires for women; anṛta-pūruṣaO untruthful person; tvām — unto you; jarā — old age, invalidity; viśatām — may enter; manda — you fool; virūpa-karaṇī — which disfigures; nṛṇām — the bodies of human beings.

TRANSLATION

Śukrācārya was extremely angry. "You untruthful fool, lusting after women! You have done a great wrong," he said. "I therefore curse you to be attacked and disfigured by old age and invalidity."
