strī kahe, — jāti laha', yadi prāṇe nā māribe
rājā kahe, — jāti nile ińho nāhi jībe
SYNONYMS
strī kahe — the wife replied; jāti laha' — then take his caste; yadi — if; prāṇe nā māribe — you will not kill him; rājā kahe — the King replied; jāti nile — if I take his caste; ińho nāhi jībe — he will not live (he will commit suicide).
TRANSLATION
As a last alternative, the wife suggested that the Nawab take away Subuddhi Rāya's caste and turn him into a Muslim, but Hussain Khān replied that if he did this, Subuddhi Rāya would not live.
