papraccha vidvān api tan-nidānaḿ

janeṣu vikhyāpayituḿ mukundaḥ

kas tvaḿ mahā-bhāga vareṇya-rūpo

devottamaḿ tvāḿ gaṇayāmi nūnam

SYNONYMS

papracchaHe asked; vidvān — well aware; api — although; tat — of this; nidānam — the cause; janeṣu — among people in general; vikhyāpayitumto make it known; mukundaḥ — Lord Kṛṣṇa; kaḥ — who; tvam — you; mahā-bhāgaO fortunate one; vareṇya — excellent; rūpaḥ — whose form; deva-uttamaman exalted demigod; tvām — You; gaṇayāmiI should consider; nūnam — certainly.

TRANSLATION

Lord Kṛṣṇa understood the situation, but to inform people in general He inquired as follows: "Who are you, O greatly fortunate one? Seeing your excellent form, I think you must surely be an exalted demigod.
