PURPORT
These are the names the six children first had when they were sons of Marīci. The oldest, Smara, was called Kīrtimān when born again to Vasudeva, as recorded in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (10.1.57),
kīrtimantaḿ prathama-jaḿ
kaḿsāyānakadundubhiḥ
arpayām āsa kṛcchreṇa
so 'nṛtad ati-vihvalaḥ
"Vasudeva was very much disturbed by the fear of becoming a liar by breaking his promise. Thus with great pain he delivered his firstborn son, named Kīrtimān, into the hands of Kaḿsa."
