ojaḥ saho balaḿ prāṇam

amṛtaḿ mṛtyum eva ca

tam ajñāya jano hetum

ātmānaḿ manyate jaḍam

SYNONYMS

ojaḥ — the strength of the senses; sahaḥ — the strength of the mind; balam — the strength of the body; prāṇam — the living condition; amṛtam — immortality; mṛtyum — death; eva — indeed; ca — also; tam — Him (the Supreme Lord); ajñāya — without knowing; janaḥa foolish person; hetum — the cause; ātmānam — the body; manyate — considers; jaḍam — although as good as stone.

TRANSLATION

Our sensory prowess, mental power, bodily strength, living force, immortality and mortality are all subject to the superintendence of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Not knowing this, foolish people think the dull material body to be the cause of their activities.
