śrī-ṛṣir uvāca

abhyarthitaḥ sura-gaṇaiḥ

paurahitye mahā-tapāḥ

sa viśvarūpas tān āha

prasannaḥ ślakṣṇayā girā

SYNONYMS

śrī-ṛṣiḥ uvācaŚukadeva Gosvāmī continued to speak; abhyarthitaḥ — being requested; sura-gaṇaiḥ — by the demigods; paurahityein accepting the priesthood; mahā-tapāḥ — highly advanced in austerity and penances; saḥhe; viśvarūpaḥViśvarūpa; tānto the demigods; āha — spoke; prasannaḥ — being satisfied; ślakṣṇayā — sweet; girā — with words.

TRANSLATION

Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued: When all the demigods requested the great Viśvarūpa to be their priest, Viśvarūpa, who was advanced in austerities, was very pleased. He replied to them as follows.
