kanyā caivāhukātmajau

devakaś cograsenaś ca

dhṛtadevādayo nṛpa

SYNONYMS

tasya — from him (Punarvasu); āhukaḥĀhuka; ca — and; āhukīĀhukī; ca — also; kanyāa daughter; ca — also; eva — indeed; āhuka — of Āhuka; ātmajau — two sons; devakaḥDevaka; ca — and; ugrasenaḥUgrasena; ca — also; catvāraḥ — four; devaka-ātmajāḥ — sons of Devaka; devavānDevavān; upadevaḥUpadeva; ca — and; sudevaḥ — Sudeva; devavardhanaḥ — Devavardhana; teṣām — of all of them; svasāraḥ — sisters; sapta — seven; āsan — existed; dhṛtadevā-ādayaḥ — headed by Dhṛtadevā; nṛpaO King (Mahārāja Parīkṣit); śāntidevāŚāntidevā; upadevāUpadevā; ca — also; śrīdevāŚrīdevā; devarakṣitāDevarakṣitā; sahadevāSahadevā; devakīDevakī; ca — and; vasudevaḥŚrī Vasudeva, the father of Kṛṣṇa; uvāha — married; tāḥ — them.

TRANSLATION

Punarvasu had a son and a daughter, named Āhuka and Āhukī respectively, and Āhuka had two sons, named Devaka and Ugrasena. Devaka had four sons, named Devavān, Upadeva, Sudeva and Devavardhana, and he also had seven daughters, named Śāntidevā, Upadevā, Śrīdevā, Devarakṣitā, Sahadevā, Devakī and Dhṛtadevā. Dhṛtadevā was the eldest. Vasudeva, the father of Kṛṣṇa, married all these sisters.
