kaṇvaḥ kumārasya vane

cakre samucitāḥ kriyāḥ

baddhvā mṛgendraḿ tarasā

krīḍati sma sa bālakaḥ

SYNONYMS

kaṇvaḥKaṇva Muni; kumārasya — of the son born of Śakuntalā; vanein the forest; cakre — executed; samucitāḥ — prescribed; kriyāḥ — ritualistic ceremonies; baddhvā — capturing; mṛga-indrama lion; tarasā — by force; krīḍati — playing; smain the past; saḥhe; bālakaḥ — the child.

TRANSLATION

In the forest, Kaṇva Muni performed all the ritualistic ceremonies concerning the newborn child. Later, the boy became so powerful that he would capture a lion and play with it.
